Position: CSA Farm – Production Assistant

Location: New Hamburg (Just 15 minutes drive west from Waterloo, 15 minutes east of Stratford)

Seasonal (16 to 32 hours per week, up to 3 days/week)

At Green Hart Farms we’re on a mission is to make it easier for busy families eat healthy, eat local and eat fresh, while feeling good about where there food comes from. We grow and pack our fresh sustainably grown vegetables and greens for delivery to homes in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and other local communities from May to late November.

We have four hoop houses and numerous outdoor beds. We produce our own seedlings for transplant, as well as for live plants sales in the spring.

Here’s what we’re looking for….

We’re seeking a hardworking and enthusiastic individual with an interest in local ecological farming to join us this season from May to mid September. This is an entry level position and we will provide training, so no experience and no degree or diploma is required.

As a member of our team here’s what you can expect.

What you will be doing:

  • washing, sorting and packing vegetables
  • bagging and weighing greens
  • setting up the packaging line each pack day
  • picking and packing orders for delivery to members and customers
  • hand harvesting vegetables
  • preparing for special event days
  • completing basic reports and data records
  • maintaining the pack room and storage areas in a clean efficient state
  • washing produce bins
  • transplanting vegetable seedlings

Less frequent tasks you may be involved in:

  • trellising tomatoes and cucumbers
  • assisting with maintenance/repair tasks around the farm
  • weeding and weed prevention and pest control

What you will need:

  • reliable transportation to get to work on time each day at 8 a.m.
  • ability to commit for the duration of the season
  • physical fitness to lift 40 lbs and work in crouching, kneeling, bending and standing positions
  • to enjoy working outdoors in a variety of conditions including heat, wind and rain
  • careful attention to detail
  • to enjoy working as part of a team and independently
  • to complete repetitive tasks quickly and reliably
  • ability to distinguish between colours
  • ability to take instruction and follow through to complete tasks


$16/hour plus vegetables for your own use each week (approx. value $25/week)

Regular hours of work are between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with 2 days per week starting in May and possibly an extra day during June. Enjoy a one week holiday in early August.
