Rutabaga vs Turnip
Vegetable of the Month- the Rutabaga
Also known as ‘yellow turnip’, ‘neep’, and ‘swede’. Often mistaken with a turnip- but not the same. . .
Here are a few differences:
- the turnip has been a staple food for a long time, whereas the rutabaga was actually developed in the 1800’s.
- Rutabagas are actually a cross between a turnip and a cabbage
- Rutabagas are generally larger than turnips; they also store better
- Rutabagas have a sweeter flavour than most turnips
