Where to order seeds in Ontario
If you’re planning on a veggie garden this summer, and you intend to start your plants from seed, now’s the time to get your seed orders in.
Sure, you could wait until April or May. . .
However, by then some of the more popular varieties will most likely be sold out.
Here are some local and Canadian seed companies to order your seed from:
(These are the ones we use for our seeds)
- Ontario Seed Company (Waterloo, Ontario)
- Good selection of heirloom and open pollinated seeds
- William Dam Seeds (Dundas, Ontario)
- More selection of different hybrid varieties
- Stokes Seeds (Thorold, Ontario)
- Both treated and untreated seeds, larger batch sizes for commercial growers
- Veseys Seed Company (PEI)
- Perennials and bulbs as well as vegetable seeds.
- Richters Seed Company (Goodwood, ON)
- Excellent variety of herbs, including many more unusual and hard to find ones. Some heirloom vegetables as well.
- West Coast Seeds (BC)
- Lots of variety.
There are also many smaller seed companies in Ontario. We haven’t ordered from them regularly, so we can’t vouch for them. But you might just discover a new favourite.
I’ve found a fairly complete list here: https://www.farmsatwork.ca/sites/default/files/Seed%20Companies%20in%20Ontario%202020.pdf
Happy seed ordering and garden daydreaming!
